Branding Photos for Realtors: What to Include in Your Session
If you’re a Realtor, chances are you already have a professional headshot.
But if that one headshot is doing all the work on your website, Instagram, listing materials, email signature and everything else… we need to give it a little help.
That’s where a branding session comes in.
When I photograph branding sessions for Realtors, I’m not looking to create 50 versions of the same perfectly posed photo. I want to give you variety.
Different expressions. Different crops. Different outfits. Images with personality. Photos that leave room for text or graphics. And yes, we’ll still get the polished headshot your business needs.
The goal is to walk away with a collection of photos you can actually use.
START WITH THE PLACES YOUR PHOTOS NEED TO GO
Before your branding session, think about where you’re currently showing up for your business.
Your website, Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, Google Business Profile, email marketing, listing presentations, print materials and advertisements may all need different types of images.
A tight headshot might be perfect for your LinkedIn profile, but it won’t necessarily work as the banner across your website.
An image with plenty of open space beside you, on the other hand, can be perfect when your designer needs somewhere to add a headline or graphic.
Knowing how you plan to use your photos helps us create the right variety during your session instead of simply taking a bunch of pretty pictures and hoping they work later.
YOUR REALTOR BRANDING SESSION NEEDS MORE THAN HEADSHOTS
We’ll absolutely take headshots.
But then we’re going to keep going.
For a Realtor, that might mean walking shots, sitting portraits, more relaxed lifestyle images, photos using your phone or laptop, images that show your personality and plenty of options that feel less formal than a traditional business portrait.
Think about the way you actually market yourself.
Sometimes you need professional. Sometimes you need approachable. Sometimes you just need a great photo to put behind a “Just Listed” graphic without using the same headshot you’ve already posted 47 times.
That variety is what makes a branding gallery so useful.
BRING MORE THAN ONE OUTFIT
You don’t need to bring your entire closet, but changing your look is one of the easiest ways to make one branding session feel like several.
I usually recommend choosing outfits that represent different sides of your brand.
Maybe one is polished and professional, another is a little more relaxed, and another has more personality or color.
The important thing is that you still feel like yourself in all of them.
If you would never wear a blazer in real life, you don’t suddenly need one because you’re having branding photos taken.
Your clients are eventually going to meet you. Your photos should look like the person who shows up.
CHOOSE A LOCATION THAT FITS YOUR BRAND
Your branding session doesn’t have to happen in a studio.
For Realtors especially, using locations around the community can make a lot of sense.
Downtown areas, modern developments, neighborhoods, coffee shops, office spaces and other recognizable locations can add context to your photos while giving us plenty of variety.
For branding sessions in the McKinney and Frisco area, I look for locations that photograph beautifully but also make sense for the person and business I’m photographing.
The location should support your brand, not compete with it.
LEAVE ROOM FOR YOUR MARKETING
This is one of those little things that can make a BIG difference later.
Not every photograph needs you right in the middle of the frame.
During a branding session, I intentionally create some images with negative space around you. That gives you or your designer room to add text, logos, announcements or graphics without covering your face.
We’ll also create a mix of horizontal and vertical images.
Vertical photos work beautifully for Instagram and Stories. Horizontal images can be great for websites, banners, Facebook covers, email marketing and other graphics.
Those details might not seem exciting while we’re shooting, but they’re exactly what makes your gallery more useful afterward.
LET SOME PERSONALITY IN
Professional does not have to mean stiff.
People hire people they connect with, especially in a relationship-driven business like real estate.
Your branding photos should give potential clients a little sense of who they’re going to meet.
That might mean a big laugh, a more casual outfit, movement, your favorite coffee shop, a neighborhood you love or simply expressions that feel more like you than your standard business headshot.
We’re building a professional image library, but we’re still photographing a person.
That part matters.
HOW OFTEN SHOULD REALTORS UPDATE THEIR BRANDING PHOTOS?
There isn’t one perfect schedule, but if your photos no longer look like you or your business has changed significantly, it’s probably time.
You may also want updated branding photos when you launch a new website, change your visual branding, move brokerages, start a new marketing campaign or simply realize you’ve been recycling the same handful of images for a few years.
A good branding gallery should give you enough variety that you aren’t constantly searching for something new to post.
WHAT SHOULD I BRING TO A REALTOR BRANDING SESSION?
Start with a few outfits and any items you naturally use in your business.
That might include your phone, laptop, notebook, keys, marketing materials or signs if they make sense for the images we’re planning.
But don’t feel like you need to arrive with a car full of props.
We’ll plan the session beforehand so you know what will actually be useful and what can stay home.
DO I NEED TO KNOW HOW TO POSE?
Nope. That’s my job.
I’ll guide you throughout the session so you’re not standing there wondering what to do with your hands.
We’ll work through different poses, expressions and movement so your gallery has variety without everything feeling overly posed.
And if being in front of the camera isn’t exactly your favorite activity, you are definitely not alone.
