Spring is the perfect time to get outside, explore new places, and make lasting memories with your family. As a mom of five with our youngest being nine, I love finding activities that get us outdoors, enjoying the fresh air and beautiful scenery. McKinney and the surrounding areas are packed with family-friendly adventures, and if you’re looking for a way to capture these sweet spring moments, JC Photography & Design is here to help with timeless family photos!

Here are four of our favorite things to do this time of year:

1. Visit the Bluebonnet Trails in Ennis

Spring in Texas wouldn’t be complete without a trip to the Ennis Bluebonnet Trails! Just an hour from McKinney, this scenic drive offers breathtaking views of Texas’ iconic wildflowers. Mid-April is typically peak bloom, making it the perfect time to pack a picnic, take a family drive, and, of course, capture some stunning photos among the bluebonnets. If you want a professional touch, I’d love to help you book a bluebonnet session!

2. Spend a Day at Bonnie Wenk Park

Bonnie Wenk Park is a local gem that offers something for the whole family—scenic walking trails, a fantastic playground, a splash pad for warmer days, and even an off-leash dog park. The wide-open spaces make it a perfect spot for kids to run, play, and explore. Plus, the natural setting is ideal for candid photos of your little ones enjoying the season!

3. Explore the Heard Natural Science Museum & Wildlife Sanctuary

If your kids love hands-on learning and nature, the Heard Museum is a must-visit. With beautiful hiking trails, wildlife exhibits, and interactive experiences, it’s an exciting and educational outing. This spring, they’re featuring Bugs LIVE, a new exhibit showcasing incredible live insects and their fascinating world. It’s a great way to learn about nature while getting outdoors!

4. Enjoy a Weekend at McKinney’s Farmers’ Market

For a laid-back weekend activity, head to the McKinney Farmers’ Market at Chestnut Square. It’s one of the best in North Texas, offering farm-fresh produce, homemade treats, and unique artisan goods. Whether you’re shopping for fresh ingredients or just enjoying the atmosphere, it’s a fun way to support local businesses and enjoy a relaxing Saturday morning.
